Throughout history, women have made many remarkable achievements, and people often celebrate these accomplishments during Women’s History Month. While there are many reasons to praise the impacts women have had on American society, during this special time of year, feminine power and the journey toward equality get extra focus. Because women and girls are so vital to our society, there are many ways that the community can choose to celebrate them. Here’s our list of ways for you to enjoy Women’s History Month around Pasadena, Texas. 

The Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park 

VisitThe Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park for a unique and wonderful experience that showcases the strength of Texan women. Take a walking tour to learn about some of Houston’s historical houses, the women that occupied and maintained them, and how these individuals were powerful in their own right. For example, many showed how progressive thought and education could help improve property ownership rights, the educational system, and access to the arts. For groups of 10 or more, be sure to call and schedule a tour with one of their guides. 

Adult general admission begins at $15, while children from 6 to 12 can participate for only $6. There are also discounts for senior citizens. The tour is one hour long, and a docent will guide you through each exhibit, providing valuable information about three specific properties and the women who helped to shape Houston and American history.

  • Hours: Tour hours are 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. 

SoHo Garden

On Thursday, March 30, SoHo Garden will host a celebration honoring the contributions of women throughout history. You can mingle with other like-minded and driven individuals, celebrate the passion that connects all women, and network with women from diverse professional realms. Admission is free to all, and the event is during Happy Hour, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

  • Location:408 Main Street, Houston. 
  • Hours: From 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday. 

Houston Historical Tours

Houston Historical Tours  offers a selection of three different tours of five hours each that focus on women’s history and culture. Each tour consists of visiting at least two different museums and a selection of historical properties, along with a possible stop for comfort food relating to the tour’s theme or topic. 

Tour A focuses on the east and central parts of Houston, featuring possible locations such as the Julia B. Ideson Library, Market Square Park, and the Married Ladies Social, Art & Charity Club. If you’re looking for something elsewhere, Tour B focuses on the west and southwest areas of Houston and explores places including the Girl Scouts Museum, Bayou Bend house, and the Houston Area Women’s Center. Then there’s Tour C, which explores the west and north portion of Houston, where you can visit the Telephone Museum, the Houston Junior Forum, and the League of Women Voters’ exhibit. 

Tour prices vary by the number of participants but typically begin at 10 a.m. and conclude by 3 p.m. Dress in layers for the weather, and be sure to have some extra cash on hand to pay for additional items at the stops and shops along the way.

The Wonders of Women Museum & Art Gallery

As the first museum and gallery dedicated to women, the Wonders of Women (W.O.W.) Museum & Art Gallery is a place to celebrate all females, past and present. The W.O.W. Museum includes such important historical figures as Frida Kahlo, Princess Diana of Wales, and Dolly Parton. The Rosie the Riveter gallery features influential photos, memorabilia, and even song lyrics showing how powerful a positive message of empowerment can be. 

Pasadena Museum of History

The Pasadena Museum of History is a great place to spend an afternoon learning about our local history and the women who helped shape the community. As the only museum dedicated to preserving and sharing Pasadena’s history, a stop here is a must for any Pasadena native or visitor. Be sure not to miss the exhibition called Community Stitches: Quilt Designs and Stories. These functional works of art were traditionally made by Texan women and hold hidden stories about the complex history of Pasadena.

Adult general admission is $9, and senior citizens can enter at a reduced rate of $8. If you’re a Museum member or student under 18 years, you can visit free of charge. 

  • Location: 470 W. Walnut Street, Pasadena. 
  • Hours: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
