Let’s start by looking at the available engines for both trucks. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has several engines to choose from. Your options include a turbocharged four-cylinder, two V-8s, or a Duramax 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel inline six. If you want the fastest setup, you’ll want to explore the 6.2-liter V-8, which provides 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. For more torque, check out the inline-six Duramax, which has 495 lb-ft of torque. Four engine options are available for the 2024 Ford F-150: a 2.7-liter V-6 that produces 325 horsepower, a 5.0-liter V-8 that produces 400 horsepower, another 400-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6, and a hybrid powertrain that uses a 3.5-liter V-6 and an electric motor to produce 400 horsepower.

At its best, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 pounds, which is more than enough for the average user. To get this tow rating, you’ll need to get the 6.2-liter V-8 engine, but even if you opt for a smaller engine, such as the 5.3-liter option, you’ll still be able to tow up to 11,500 pounds. You can tow up to 9,500 pounds with the four-cylinder engine.

The 2024 Ford F-150 can tow similar amounts. The best towing capacity is with the twin-turbo V-6 engine, which can tow 13,500 pounds, slightly more than the Silverado. Other engines on the Ford F-150 can tow 13,000 pounds (V-8 engine) or 12,700 pounds (hybrid powertrain).
